BRTA Process: Recruit Agent 5/2019

Need:

BRTA Agents should have a consistent and common process that will be used as a formal response to

inquiry about camping or requests to join the BRTA theme camp.

Purpose:

BRTA is an aero themed camp whose main purpose is to serve the BRC Airport, participating pilots

and Point 5 activities, through giving of volunteer work by BRTA Agents. Our motto being “We will help you get to where you need to go”. This process is a guide to assure that Recruit Agents invited to join will; participate, add value to our camp, be harmonious and have a great time. Growth to our BRTA camp should be managed, healthy and serve our mutual purpose at the burn.

Process:

1. BRTA is an Invitation Camp, new Agents may only join through invitation.

2. Everyone is invited to visit/participate/volunteer at the BRTA Camp.

3. Only active Agents that have contributed on that year’s Cost Sharing may reside in Camp.

4. If a person wishes to become a Recruit Agent they must be invited to join BRTA by

   a “sponsor” agent who is attending that year’s burn.

5. Requests to join the BRTA should be responded to with the following pre-authored

   statement:

“Welcome from the Black Rock Travel Agency! Our theme is to gift our service to 88NV, the

Black Rock City Municipal Airport, though multiple volunteer activities such as: Air and Ramp

Operations, Scenic Gift Flights, the BRTA Camp itself including the Star Port, Bar, Galley and various
Hosted events.  Anyone can visit us and volunteer with us but only Agents may camp with BRTA. To become a
Recruit Agent you must the first year:

a. Be invited by an active Agent to join BRTA, (your Agent Sponsor)

b. Purchase a BM Ticket

c. Help cost share for BRTA expenses, ($100 in 2019)

d. Participate in Camp (9hrs volunteer in 2019),  Participate in Galley ($250 in 2019)

e. Have a playa plan, the reason you are coming to the Burn?

f. Stay late after exodus to help break down camp, (you may get a pass the first year,
   after that we may ask for additional cost sharing).

If you don’t know any of our Agents then the way to join our camp is to show up, meet people and let them meet you, maybe be helpful, show us your stuff and gain a sponsor for next year’s burn.  The whole point of burning man is the community and giving to fellow burners.  So you are seeking in the right direction...find a camp, make yourself a part of that tribe of burners who together add greatness to our City!”

6. If an Agent wants to sponsor a new Agent please follow the “Sponsor of Recruit Agent Process”.

   There are numerous responsibilities and tasks you must take on as a Sponsor but in addition to
   “I like this person” consider the qualities of the prospective Agent including;

-has recruit agent burned before? (what camps, talk to them?)

-is their character and temperament of the type that will enjoy the experience of the playa?

-what will the recruit agent do that will add to the BRTA Camp?

-for which camp team will the recruit agent volunteer?

-is this recruit agent planning to attend only one burn?

-will recruit agent be able to/want to do items a-f above?
