BRTA Process:  Sponsor of Recruit Agent 5/2019

Need:

BRTA Agents should have a consistent and common process that will be used to recruit new Agents into our theme camp.  Each Recruit Agent needs to be guided by a knowledgeable Agent to help assure that they enjoy the experience, are successful in becoming a BRC Citizen and long time burner.

Purpose:

The process to joining BRTA is only through the invitation of a current active Agent in good standing.  Recruit Agents invited to join should participate, volunteer, be harmonious and add value to our camp. All Agents should understand that growth to our BRTA camp will be managed, healthy and serve our mutual purpose.  This process is used in conjunction with the Recruit Agent process.

Process:

  1. To become a BRTA Agent, a “Recruit” must receive a letter of invitation from an active Agent, the “Sponsor”.  This active Agent Sponsor must; be in Good Standing, have attended the burn at least once in the last two years and be attending this year’s burn, (the same as the Recruit).

  2. The Sponsor will contact BRTA Leadership, via brta-leaders@googlegroups.com, to announce they have a potential Recruit Agent, their name and particulars, and why the Sponsor believes that this person will be a good addition to our community.  A BRTA leader will respond:

    1. affirming agreement with the Sponsor to send an invitation,

    2. providing an invitation letter for the Sponsor to send to the recruit,

    3. providing a new agent questionnaire for the Sponsor and recruit to complete and return,

    4. logging the information into a recruit agent folder.

  3. The Agent Sponsor will accept the responsibility for the Recruit helping them prepare for the event mentally, physically and logistically.  The Sponsor assumes the position of “guide” to this Recruit assuring their needs are met, steering them away from problems, counseling them on their behavior and meeting with BRTA leadership concerning the Recruit’s status.

  4. Sponsoring Agent shall begin an informal verbal discussion with the Recruit to explain; the new Agent process, what coming to Burning Man means, what is burner culture, what is required of playa living, how to create a burner profile, show them how to buy tickets, how to find the BM web site information on playa survival, what to expect and what is expected of each Agent,…and all things Burner!

  5. The Recruit will begin a written “Playa Plan” that will explain what the new Agent envisions as their reason for coming to the Burn, how the Recruit plans to add value to our camp, how and what to do at the burn, Camp Team that Recruit is interested in volunteering on, important events being held, schedule of tasks/dates, time needed to do all, costs incurred or any other planning ideas that the Sponsor or Recruit has.  Save this .pdf document as RPP_Initial_Lastname (ex: RPP_B_Jones) and submit by e-mail to the BRTA Leaders group mail prior to Aug 1st.  The RPP.pdf does not need to be complicated or long; a minimum of one page is requested.  The Recruit’s RPP will only be reviewed after the burn when Camp Leadership decides to grant the Recruit a status of Agent in Good Standing for the next year’s burn.

  6. Sponsor will assure that the Recruit understands the expectation that they must:

    1. Be invited by an active Agent to join BRTA,

    2. Purchase a BM Ticket,

    3. Help cost share for BRTA expenses, ($100 in 2019)

    4. Participate in Camp, (3 shifts volunteer)

    5. Have a “playa plan”, with Camp Team identified, submitted by Aug 1st

    6. Stay late after exodus to help break down Camp

  7. Sponsor will coordinate arrival with Recruit assuring that they are on-playa when the Recruit arrives, helping set up their camp, orienting and introducing the Recruit to all things at Pt5 and the City.

  8. Sponsor will introduce the Recruit to the BRTA Camp Team process and assure that the Recruit finds a position on a team.

Sponsor will help the Recruit with any issues or problems assisting resolution but if unable to do so contacting a BRTA Leader for assistance.
